WHAT IS ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?
The root canal contains nerves and blood vessels, which extend to the bottom of the tooth’s root.
When a tooth is damaged, bacteria can cause an infection and damage the root canal. For some patients, the tooth will turn a darker colour, which could mean the nerve in the tooth is dying.
Root canal treatment tackles the infection and can often save a tooth that would otherwise have to be extracted.

How does it work?
Your root canal treatment
Preparation
We may take x-rays of the tooth to analyse the extent of the damage and prepare for treatment.
Remove infection
Your dentist will give you a local anaesthetic, remove infected areas and drain any dental abscesses.
Fill and seal
We will place a temporary filling into the cleaned area and invite you back for a further appointment.
Second visit
Your dentist will fill the tooth permanently and seal it to prevent reinfection. In some cases we will fit a crown.
