Our orthodontists at White & Co. have been providing patients with knowledge and guidance for many years.

Here are four things you should know about orthodontics:

1. EARLY ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT IS THE IDEAL (CHILDREN’S ORTHODONTICS)

For children’s orthodontics, if you’re concerned your child may have dental problems it’s important to get them checked out as soon as possible.

For example, they may have problems chewing or biting, visible jaw misalignment or crowded teeth.

In cases like these, it’s best to take your child to see a specialist orthodontist by the age of seven.

Early attention gives us the most time possible to try to correct any problems.

If your child is over seven and shows any of these signs, please book an appointment.

Please note: Adults don’t need to worry. Orthodontic treatment for adults is also highly effective!

2. CHOOSE A SPECIALIST ORTHODONTIST

A specialist orthodontist is a dental professional who has trained for a number of extra years – focusing specifically on orthodontics – after becoming a qualified dentist.

They are registered as specialists with the General Dental Council.

Our White & Co. orthodontists are highly skilled and experienced.

3. MYTHS ABOUT ORTHODONTICS

Orthodontic myth 1: It always takes many years

Many orthodontic treatments are finished in 12-18 months.

Orthodontic myth 2: Rugby and other contact sports are unsafe when wearing braces

If you wear an orthodontic mouthguard to protect your teeth and braces, it’s safe to play contact sports.

Orthodontic myth 3: It’s impossible to play wind or brass instruments when wearing braces

Many people can play instruments like a trumpet or saxophone while wearing braces.

A period of adjustment may be required. Some brass and wind instrumentalists use orthodontic wax to reduce irritation to the lips and the inside of the mouth.

4. Confidence is the number one benefit of straight teeth.

Enjoy new confidence with your beautiful new smile!
