INTRODUCING DENTAL IMPLANTS
Implants are artificial titanium tooth roots, placed surgically into the jawbone.
They support crowns, bridges and dentures - creating a secure, natural-looking replacement for missing teeth.
At White & Co. our implants patients tell us they love the confidence of a new, full, healthy smile.
Are my teeth suitable for dental implants?
For many patients, implants are the gold standard for missing teeth.
As a general rule, if your oral and general health are strong enough for you to be treated with a routine oral procedure, dental implants will be possible.
Three of the most important factors for a successful implants procedure are:
+ Healthy gums
+ Good oral hygiene
+ Sufficient jawbone density
How old do I need to be to have dental implants?
It's uncommon for age to be a barrier when it comes to implants treatment.
We have very successfully treated patients who are well into their 90s.
Conversely, younger patients whose jawbones are still developing - for example those under the age of 19 - are unsuitable for dental implants.
WHEN ARE IMPLANTS NOT RECOMMENDED?
Now let's consider some other situations in which implants are not an appropriate treatment.
There are a number of conditions that can directly impact healing and therefore affect the success of treatment.
They include uncontrolled diabetes, a suppressed immune system and chemotherapy.
Can smokers have dental implants?
Heavy smokers may be advised against dental implants.
And unless their conditions are carefully managed, patients with ongoing gum disease or who suffer from severe bruxism (teeth grinding), may also be deemed unsuitable.
As each case and patient is unique, a consultation with our exceptional implants dentists is essential.
Is there an age limit for dental implants?
As already suggested, if your oral health makes oral surgery possible, then you should be able to benefit from dental implants.
If you're in your 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or older, implants can make your life better in many ways including improved eating, speaking and smiling with confidence!
